Finally finished that picture of Rauk (EXILE)! I’m pretty happy with the result (considering I’m still getting the hang of “special effects”). :’3c

Question 5

Question 5 asked by sixteentons:

5.) Is [Alexi] lucky in love? Can you describe any of their past relationships?

Alexi is only 16 years old and has had two girlfriends, so I’d say that’s fairly lucky, if not par for the course! Although she is a lesbian living in a strongly heteronormative community, Alexi has never received any grief about it since most people assume she is simply a “perfectly normal straight boy.” Alexi herself has only recently (as of the beginning of the story) determined that the thoughts and feelings that have been troubling her most of her life are gender-related.

Her first relationship was in 1st grade, and that ended because it was the 1st grade. Her second relationship was two years prior to the beginning of our story, in 8th grade, with a well-liked girl named Cynthia. She was very pretty and exuberant, if a bit quirky, and she didn’t make fun of Alexi’s attention deficit issues like most kids did. Alexi stayed with her for about as long as she could withstand how sick Cynthia’s hyper-femininity made her feel - that was about 6 months. It isn’t quite accurate to say that Alexi was jealous of Cynthia; it was more so that Alexi was never totally allowed to be herself. The more masculine Alexi acted, the happier Cynthia seemed to be and the more docile she acted.

Neither kid could really put a name to what was happening, but they were essentially pushing and pulling one another into the gender roles they had been taught were theirs. Alexi’s understanding of that whole situation has only now begun to blossom. As of Issue 1, she has her eye on someone who she feels might just accept her for who she really is…. ;)

Question 42

I’m starting off the meme by answering question 42 because it was posed to me by someone who doesn’t have a Tumblr account and can’t leave an Ask (basically, I don’t want to forget to answer it).

42.) If super-powers, magic or other abilities are part of what sets this world apart from the real world, can you describe a few?

So we all know that EXILE is up to its neck in magical powers and soft science-fiction, but we don’t know how they work (well, I do obviously)! I will now do my best to give a concise, non-spoilery explanation of some of the supernatural elements of EXILE. To make things a little easier: the word “Miren” refers to both the place and the people that hail from said place, and “mir” is the only singular pronoun used by Miren in reference to one another.

The first thing to understand is that there are various planes of reality that rarely interact with or affect one another. Miren is only one of countless worlds that exist in a reality that somewhat reflects our own (in the same way that Earth isn’t the only planet in our universe). When a Miren is exceptionally powerful, mir will sometimes demonstrate the ability to transcend mir plane of existence and cross the time-space void that separates one reality from the next. The Miren with this ability are known as “drifters.” Or’n and Stout are both drifters.

Crossing the the void between worlds, however, does not mean that one has exited their reality. Or’n for instance, can float and fly on Earth, but only because mir does not co-exist with Earth and its gravitational pull. Mir can pass through walls and floors for the same reason. There are exceptions, of course, one of which is humans who are as powerful as drifters, like Alexi. She is not only able to see drifters, but hear and touch them as well. She is also sensitive to their use of magic (as we would call it in our world), which is drawn from a force that is a constant throughout all realities.

Drifters, not unlike many other Miren who can’t drift, can also use the void to travel across whatever plane they are on at lightning speed, also known as teleportation. It may go without saying that teleportation takes a lot less out of mir than crossing planes. It is one of those abilities that many Miren of various Scripts (the caste markings magically inscribed onto their bodies to channel some abilities and seal others) possess. It’s also the first ability Alexi masters after accepting a Script from Or’n to save her sister’s life.

I don’t normally reblog things to this account, but I felt like this “meme” was a perfect starting point for getting some more information about the EXILE world out there! I’ve been thinking about sharing bits about my world building process for a while now but just didn’t know where to start. This way you can leave a number (or 5) in my Ask to give me an idea of what everyone is interested in knowing. :)
